The on-call spiral
I wish a company like PagerDuty would publish the number of incidents triggered on its platform across its enterprise customer base. It could be a great insight into the quality of the software being produced.
A colleague's choice
I was talking to a colleague who would rather be jobless than keep taking the toll of being on call. And with every departure or layoff on the team, the on-call rotation comes around more often.
The catch-22
Being on call that frequently just makes people drop the ball altogether. The net effect is the same as having no on-call engineer at all.
